What's a MOOC?

MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) result from partnerships between higher educational institutions and companies, organizations or individuals to promote online learning on a global scale.  Courses may be taken for free, but the universities and their partners frequently profit when learners seek to gain formal accreditation, certification or credits for their completed course work.

The following MOOC organizations offer substantial offerings in the fields of computer science and engineering:

        Although not a mooc site, MIT Tech TV  offers access to a huge number of academic videos.  Many other videos can be located in Youtube using the words "lectures," "classes" or "courses" combined with particular subject disciplines or even the names of individual colleges or universities.
