School Counseling: How to Search Databases

Organizes and lists books, articles, journal databases, websites, RSS feeds, and more -- all supportive of research in school counseling.

How to Search in EBSCOhost & ProQuest Databases

Let's use this sample search topic:  Effective methods for teaching reading to autistic students.

On this page, you'll see two sample searches for evidence-based education journal articles on this subject.

The first is in EBSCOhost Web's EDUCATION RESEARCH COMPLETE; the second is in PROQUEST EDUCATION JOURNALS.

These sample searches, with different keywords, would work well when researching school counseling topics. Example:  A good Boolean search on the role of the school counselor in helping stem bullying might be:

"school counselor" AND (role OR job OR responsibility) AND bully*

GOOD TO KNOW:  Both these databases provide citation formatting for a Works Cited page! That is, they do source citation formatting for you. Simply find and use the CITE tool included in each database.
