Library Databases

When using the following databases, try these searches:

CQ Researcher: Great for current events and issues

  • Search “philanthropy”
  • Search “nonprofit” (advanced search)
  • Search “caring for the elderly”
  • Browse topic: “Social Services and Disabilities” → “Aging”

Opposing Viewpoints in Context: Great for current events and issues

  • Topic: Retirement Age (Society and Culture)
  • Topic: Elderly Issues (Society and Culture)

Statista: Great for statistics 

  • Search “nonprofit”, → Nonprofit Fundraising Study by Urban Institute
  • Search “senior citizens and computers”
  • Search “fundraising nonprofit donor”
  • Search “nonprofit and social media”
  • Search “elder care”

ProQuest Sociology Database: use to find peer-reviewed studies on seniors and digital literacy

  • Search "senior citizens" and "digital"

ProQuest Central: use to find all kinds of sources, but especially great for finding news sources

  • For news articles, select "Advanced Search"
  • Use the feature "Limit to" and select full text and consider editing the publication date. For some subjects more recent publication dates are best.
  • Under "More search options" see "Source Type"
  • Select "Newspapers"
  • Add search terms for your subject (like "aging" and "digital") in the search bar and run the search.
