The Tri-State Region is home to the States of NY, NJ and CT. For patrons outside of NYC you are eligible to get a library card from your local public library.

About the Nassau Library System

The Nassau Library System is a cooperative library system chartered under State Educational Law 255. It is a consortium comprised of 54 member libraries and a Service Center for the libraries. Each member library is independent, autonomous, supported by local taxes, and governed by its own board of trustees. All public libraries in Nassau County are members of NLS.

The Nassau Library System is governed by a Board of Trustees elected pursuant to the requirements of Education Law and the By-laws of the Nassau Library System. The member library trustees nominate and elect NLS Trustees.

The Service Center is managed by the Director of the Nassau Library System. The Director is appointed by the NLS Board of Trustees. The Director functions within the policies established by the NLS Board, the regulations of the NY State Commissioner of Education and the Board of Regents, as well as the requirements of the New York State Division of Library Development.

The Nassau Library System was created to foster quality public library service in Nassau County, to enhance the public library resources and services available, to effect economies in operations, to provide training and continuing education opportunities, and to stimulate development of public library service in unserved areas. Although everyone who has a Library Card from their local Nassau County Public Library are able to check out material and use any Library within the System, some services like Museum Passes and certain databases may be restricted to members of that particular Public Library. 

Remember, anyone can use any Public Library with each System, and guess passes are issued to patrons who do not have a Library Card.

Contactless & Limited In-Library Service

Good news! Onsite service, starting with contactless pickup of materials, is beginning to resume at the public libraries of Nassau County. Things will be different than they used to be for a while longer, so before you make your plans to visit, check the website of your home library for details on specific procedures and hours of service.

Many popular and new library services, including ebooks and e-audiobooks, digital services, and virtual programs like children’s storytime, book clubs, and more will continue to be available all summer long. Follow your home library on social media for more information.

ALIScat
A catalog of the books and audiovisual materials owned by 51 of the 54 member libraries of the Nassau Library System which may be borrowed by cardholders of all NLS member libraries.

LI LINK
Long Island Link (LI LINK) was established in 2012 by the libraries of Nassau and Suffolk Counties in New York State. This system allows the patricpating libraries to easily share resources, providing wider access to the combined collections of 54 Nassau and 53 Suffolk County libraries. Members of any LI LINK participating library with an account in good standing may qualify to request materials through this service.
