3D printing is the process of making 3 dimensional solid objects from a digital file. The creation of a 3D printed objects at New York Tech Libraries is achieved using additive processes. In the additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the object is created. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross-section of the eventual object.
The material we use is PLA filament. PLA plastic or polylactic acid is a vegetable-based plastic material, which commonly uses cornstarch as a raw material. PLA is a fully biodegradable thermoplastic polymer consisting of renewable raw materials. We offer a variety of colors.
The Library provides 3D printing services for all New York Tech students. Library staff will help you prepare your model, check file settings, and estimate print time.
