NYIT Undergraduate Research Journal

The New York Tech Undergraduate Research Journal (NYTURJ) is an Open Access, peer-reviewed journal that will publish compelling and rigorous multidisciplinary undergraduate research.

For Authors

Since NYTURJ is a student-run, student-edited, and peer-reviewed by New York Tech professors, undergraduates, and graduate students, it makes considerable demands on the publication team's time. Reviewers, who tend to be academic experts with considerable other obligations, contribute their time with enormous generosity. Thus, the editing team asks authors to be responsive during the publication process. The publication team may reject an article, regardless of its previous status, if the author remains unresponsive for more than one week. Additionally, NYTURJ does not allow simultaneous submission of articles submitted to Intersect to another journal, and will reject articles found to have been simultaneously submitted to other journals, regardless of their status. Finally, it is highly discouraged to withdraw an article once it has been submitted. Authors are expected to comply with the editorial process and revise their work collaboratively with the NYTURJ team during the quarter for which they have submitted. Failure to edit submissions in timeframe for the issue warrants rejection of the paper by the editing team.

Types of Submissions

Research Articles: Articles reporting original research conducted by authors, or review articles that analyze, summarize, and make conclusions based on a topic of research. These articles should be 4,000-6,000 words in length, including the bibliography.
Papers/Essays: Papers/essays may be similar in format to research articles, but can be focused on topics outside of research.

Book Reviews: Book reviews should focus on the value of the work, its style, and should be a helpful guide for students. Reviews should be approximately 1,000 words in length, and contain all bibliographic information on the book.

Editorials: Editorials establish an opinion on any issue. These are less research-focused than articles.

Guidelines for Submissions

Abstract

The abstract should give an overview of your work, research, or topic. It should summarize these with any results or conclusions you found through your work. Your abstract should be concise and only contain information relevant to your work. It should be no longer than 250 words. Abstracts must be submitted before the submission deadline and must be submitted with all manuscripts.

Manuscript

Manuscripts should include your abstract within them. Manuscripts of any length shorter than 25 double spaced pages will be accepted. Manuscript formats must follow the guidelines of NYTURJ. Do not include your name in the manuscript to ensure a double-blind review.

Images

Images submitted to NYTURJ must be clearly visible and of a high quality. Texts of annotations within these images must be easily readable. Images from another source must be cited.

Sources

Sources should primarily consist of work that has been published in scholarly journals. All submissions to the NYTURJ should include these citations. Although sources containing other literature may be appropriate, the article should maintain the expectations of strong scholarly writing.

Citations

All citations in submissions must follow the APA citation guidelines. This includes quoted and paraphrased materials. Authors must also submit a full bibliography of their references in APA format. Please reference this guide for more information and contact the NYTURJ team for any questions about citation format.

Manuscript Resubmission

Please update the manuscript in adherence to review comments and submit two versions of the manuscript along with a brief letter:

  1. A copy changes made marked in red
  2. A final version
  3. Letter entailing major summary of changes and response to reviewers. Explicitly note how you have responded to the comments in your revised manuscript.
