Creating Effective Links to eBooks & Chapters

This guide provides faculty with a simple, step-by-step process for creating links to textbooks, articles, and other library resources that ensure seamless student access. Learn how to use the correct URL prefix and avoid common linking issues.

Good Link Examples

Identifying Functioning Links for Students

It can be challenging to determine if a link is operational for students. Here's an example of a "good" link along with the features it showcases:

  • The text url contains no spaces
  • The text color has shifted to blue, and the entire text is underlined
  • When you hover your mouse over the text, a clickable link appears

Bad Link Examples

Recognizing Problematic Links

It can be challenging to determine if a link is operational for students. Here's an example of a "bad" link along with the features it showcases:

  • The URL text contains spaces
  • Only part of the text is blue, and just a portion of the URL is underlined

All links must include the OCLC prefix. If your link contains the previously used Arktos text or URLs, they will need to be revised. Please consult the instructions available in the How to Create a Link (Step-by-Step) tab for guidance.
