Creating Effective Links to eBooks & Chapters

This guide provides faculty with a simple, step-by-step process for creating links to textbooks, articles, and other library resources that ensure seamless student access. Learn how to use the correct URL prefix and avoid common linking issues.

Step 1: Find Your Textbook

  • In the search bar, type the title of your textbook. Example: Grant's Atlas of Anatomy

  • Click the blue "View e-Book" box under the textbook image.

Step 2: Copy the OLC Prefix Link

  • Open a text editor like Notepad. Copy the following prefix link: https://nyit.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

  • Paste the prefix link into your document

  • Follow instructions from Step 3 to complete the book link.

Step 3: Create One Single Link

  • Once you have accessed your textbook, copy the url from the top of your screen.

  • Paste the textbook url directly after the equal (=) sign of the NYIT OCLC prefix in your document. Ensure there are no spaces

  • Now you can copy and paste this link to be shared in your CPGs.
  • Note:
    • These same steps should be followed to link to individual book chapters and other database e-resources, including flashcards, podcasts, review questions, etc.
