FINDING JOURNALS WITH ULRICHSWEB

Ulrichsweb Global Serials Directory contains detailed information about periodicals (a.k.a., publications such as newspapers, magazines, scholarly journals, etc.) across 900 different subject areas and in multiple formats (electronic, print, etc.). If you're not familiar with the scholarly literature being published in a particular discipline, this is a great place to get started. NOTE: This database does not contain publications, rather it contains information ABOUT publications. Use the Journal Locator to locate full-text access to journals you discover in Ulrichsweb.

Suggested Limiters

STATUS: Not every publication indexed in Ulrichsweb is active. This means that even titles that are no longer being published are also listed in Ulrichsweb and will appear in your search. In order to limit your search to current publications, select active. 

SERIAL TYPE: Serial type indicates the nature of the publication and its intended audience. Keep in mind, specific serial types have specific characteristics and target audiences. You can learn more about different types of serials here. To limit your search to scholarly periodicals, select the journals limiter.

CONTENT TYPE: Content type indicates the nature of the materials appearing within publication. Keep in mind, specific content types have specific characteristics and targt audiences. You can learn more about different content types here. To limit your search to scholarly periodicals, select the Academic/Scholarly limiter.

LANGUAGE OF TEXT: The periodicals covered in Ulrichs are international in scope. If you have a language preference or possess reading proficiency in multiple languages, you can designate your preferences using the language limiter. 

SUBJECT AREA: This limiter will allow you to narrow your search to journals that publish content within the topical/disciplinary scope selected.

KEY FEATURES: If searching for scholarly publications, the refereed/peer-reviewed limiter should be selected. Additional features will depend upon your personal preferences and search needs.

Step 1. Access Ulrichsweb Global Serials Directory and select ADVANCED SEARCH.

Step 2. Click MORE LIMITERS.

Step 3. Enter keywords in first search field (set drop-down menu to keyword) & select limiters. Red boxes indicate recommended limiters (see sidebar for additional information).
