Your reference list serves a number of purposes. First, it allows you to give credit to outside sources. Second, it demonstrates the degree to which you've interacted with the literature on your topic and the degree to which you are able to select materials appropriate for the research task at hand. Finally, it provides readers with enough information to locate the source should they wish to review it for themselves.
While the examples provided here are in no way comprehensive, these formats are demonstrative of the formats you are likely to encounter during your time as a student at NYIT.
