APA Boot Camp: Date of Publication

Formatting Dates of Publication

RULE: Write out the year in parentheses followed by a period. 

EXAMPLE -  Entire Book with Author(s)

Author, A.A. (YYYY). Title of Book. Location of Publication: Publisher. DOI (if available)

RULE:  In parentheses, write out the year followed by a comma followed by the month and day. Follow the parentheses with a period. Do not abbreviate the month. 

EXAMPLE -  Newspaper Article on Multiple Continuous Pages 

Author, A. (YYYY, Month DD). Title of article. Name of Newspaper, pp.xx-xx. DOI (if available)

RULE:  In parentheses, write the year followed by a comma followed by the month. Follow the enclosed parentheses with a period. 

EXAMPLE - Article in a Print Journal

Author, A., Author, B., & Author, C. (YYYY, Month). Title of article. Name of Journal, volume(issue number), pp-pp. DOI (if available)

RULE:  In parentheses, write the year followed by a comma followed by the season. Follow the enclosed parentheses with a period. 

EXAMPLE - Article in a Print Journal

Author, A., Author, B., & Author, C. (YYYY, Season). Title of article. Name of Journal, volume(issue number), pp-pp. DOI (if available)

RULE:  If you do not have a publication date, place n.d. (which stands for no date) within parentheses and follow with a period.  

EXAMPLE - Website with Author(s)

Author, A., Author, B., & Author, C. (n.d.). Title of webpage. Name of Website. URL.
